Broken links on your blog can result in penalty from Google. Google takes into consideration several factors of your site while determining whether your site should appear on its search results or not like page load time, the number of ads on your site, content that you write, the types of promotion you do etc. and one factor which can make or break your site is the number of broken links on your site. No matter how careful you are broken links do crop. I have heard bloggers telling me about hundreds of broken links on their site which they discovered through Broken link checker, all meticulous bloggers otherwise. The feature I loved about this tool is the e mail report they send me with the details of broken links as and when they occur which enables prompt action from your part. I have taken a couple of screenshots with fireshot describing how you can configure this great tool for your WordPress blog.
1. The first thing that you find is the general options. You can configure the time interval between checking your blog. I haven’t changed the default time of 72 hours and you can input as you wish. Since seekdefo is very new there were no broken links detected but the other day I received a report from broken links on a post I had done “ 500 plus sites for guest posting”. Checking the post myself and correcting it would be like a very tiresome job but broken link checker does it all for me.
2.
2. The next step is deciding where to check the links for. Comments and posts are only needed.
3 The next useful option is deciding which links to check. The tool differentiates between plain text urls and html links which is a relief as I wouldn’t like an e mail shot to me every few seconds.
4. The advanced options may or may not be set as per your need. They do not make much sense to me. So far broken link checker is the most useful wordpress plugin I have seen and it is a must.
